"I think the England team needs to have their best players available. World CupOnly 13-15 players would be fit to play if England wanted to win the World Cup. Looking at the rest, I'm not sure they would give these players a chance to play.", John Terry stated on the sports program Sports Uncensored.
The English legend frankly stated that there are around 11 players who shouldn't be called up if England want to succeed. The center-back doesn't support many of the personnel decisions made by coach Thomas Tuchel. Players like Dan Burn and Nico O'Reilly are considered not yet capable of helping the team. Dan Burn has yet to make an impact with the England national team.
The former Chelsea captain pointed out that the decision not to call up centre-back Harry Maguire, left-back Luke Shaw, or Cole Palmer was a mistake. In these positions, experienced stars can guide younger teammates in major tournaments.
"I think Thomas Tuchel made mistakes in three or four crucial decisions on the pitch. I think you need your best players when you go further in these World Cups. For me, Maguire is simply better than Dan Burn and now if two starters are injured, even if John Stones comes on, I still prefer Harry Maguire there as a replacement.", the star born in 1980 commented.
Terry believes Maguire poses a significant threat to opponents when participating in set-piece situations. Dan Burn isn't bad, but John Terry believes Maguire should still be the preferred choice.
Nevertheless, the former English player still insisted:I've always said that I really like Thomas Tuchel. Clearly, seeing what he achieved at Chelsea, we all understand that he brought success to the team in the Champions League. I also like his style. Tuchel makes important and effective decisions.".
