Ông Rod Matless, 69 tuổi, vô cùng bất ngờ khi phát hiện ra trái cà chua có một không hai trong vườn nhà. Vốn là một bệnh nhân tim, ông Matless quyết định đem đấu giá trái cà chua tuyệt đẹp trên mạng và quyên góp số tiền thu được cho Hội Tim mạch Anh.

Một phụ nữ đến từ xứ Wales đã đấu giá thành công và giành quyền sở hữu trái cà chua lạ thường với mức giá 16 bảng Anh. Người phụ nữ này tiết lộ, cô sẽ tặng nó cho một người vô cùng đặc biệt với mình.
Ông Matless chia sẻ với báo giới về trái cà chua quý hiếm: "Với một thứ đặc biệt như vậy thì rõ ràng việc đấu giá và làm từ thiện là hoàn toàn phù hợp. Tôi đã mất 2 ngày suy nghĩ về trái cà chua hình trái tim. Thực ra, tôi vẫn không dám chắc có nên làm như vậy không nhưng vì mục đích tốt thì có lẽ vẫn nên làm".

Điều khiến ông Matless băn khoăn như vậy chính là việc cà chua không thể giữ lâu. "Tôi có thể thu được khoản tiền lớn hơn để làm từ thiện nếu trái cà chua được đấu giá lâu hơn. Nhưng thực sự, tôi không muốn gửi cho người thắng cuộc một thứ kinh khủng".
Người đàn ông sống tại Wymondham, gần Norwich, cho biết thêm: "Trái cà chua thực sự rất ngọt ngào. Bất cứ khi nào nhìn thấy một trái quả đẹp như vậy, người ta sẽ chỉ muốn ôm ấp nó mà thôi".
Tuy nhiên, đại diện Hiệp hội Tim mạch Anh, khẳng định, việc bán đấu giá trái cà chua hình trái tim là minh chứng cho thấy bất cứ sự đóng góp nào, không phân biệt to nhỏ đến đâu, đều được đón nhận và trân trọng.
