HAGL files lawsuit against VPF

HAGL has filed a lawsuit against VPF with the People's Court of Nam Tu Liem District, along with relevant documents.

Hoang Anh Gia Lai Football Club confirmed this morning (February 7th) that they filed a lawsuit against the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF). The People's Court of Nam Tu Liem District (Hanoi) received the lawsuit and related documents and evidence.

HAGL Club CEO Nguyen Tan Anh stated: "The club only hopes that the barriers to the development of professional football will be removed; we have no other aspirations."

VPF is also preparing for legal action and dispute resolution with HAGL, which is also a shareholder in the company.

The conflict between HAGL and VPF stems from the fact that the team from Pleiku has a new sponsor for the 2023 season. This sponsor operates in the same industry as the exclusive V.League 2023 sponsor – energy drinks. Therefore, VPF prohibited HAGL from promoting the team's energy drinks. HAGL and VPF worked together and found a solution that allowed the team to exploit advertising opportunities without violating the league regulations.

In addition to filing a lawsuit, HAGL also sent official letters to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the General Department of Physical Education and Sports, and the Vietnam Football Federation, petitioning them regarding the exclusive sponsorship regulations of the Vietnam Professional Football Joint Stock Company (VPF).

The team from the mountainous region has requested these agencies to review and provide feedback so that VPF can amend the V-League 2023 regulations - a document issued on January 17th after reaching an agreement with the clubs (including HAGL) and approved by VFF.

HAGL argues that VPF's monopoly regulations violate the prohibition stipulated in Clause 2, Article 8 of the Competition Law. From the perspective of ensuring the freedom of business as stipulated by law, VPF's monopoly on advertising and sponsorship is inappropriate.

HAGL argues that the "unreasonable ban by VPF" is unfair, contrary to legal regulations, international commercial practices, and sponsorship practices in international sports.
