At approximately 5:30 AM this morning (December 16th), at kilometer 12+500 of the old National Highway 1A (Ngoc Hoi road, Thanh Tri district), a series of lampposts and power poles collapsed, sparking fire and causing panic among many road users.

Many local residents reported that a container truck traveling from Thuong Tin towards Van Dien, upon turning right onto the road leading to the Tu Hiep urban area, snagged on a sagging power line. The truck then dragged the line along, causing numerous utility poles to break and fall.

“Early in the morning, while I was sleeping, I heard a very loud crash. I ran out to see and found that the streetlight pole had fallen onto the road. Then, sparks flew from the pole, and many people going to the market early in the morning were screaming and panicking,” said Ms. Tran Thi Phuong (Thanh Tri, Hanoi).
