Đội tuyển Anh được đánh giá là ứng viên số một cho ngôi đầu bảng, và là ứng viên hàng đầu cho chức vô địch. Đội tuyển Mỹ là ẩn số giải đấu. Lần gần nhất cùng bảng với Anh (World Cup 2010), Mỹ đã hòa đối thủ với tỷ số 1-1.

In the group stage of the 2022 World Cup, teams will play a round-robin format. Within each group, teams will play a single round-robin tournament. A win earns 3 points, a draw earns 1 point, and a loss earns 0 points. The top two teams in each group will advance to the knockout stage.

In the event that a group has two or more teams tied on points, tie-breaking criteria will be used for ranking in the following order: Goal difference, number of goals scored, points in head-to-head matches, goal difference in head-to-head matches, number of goals scored in head-to-head matches, fair-play index, and draw.

The Round of 16 (consisting of the 16 teams that advanced from the group stage) will take place from December 3rd to 6th. The quarter-finals will be held on December 9th and 10th. The semi-finals will be on December 13th and 14th. The final will take place on December 18th.
