8 tháng sau ở giải U19 Đông Nam Á mở rộng, U19 Việt Nam có dịp gặp lại U19 Nhật Bản nhưng trong cả hai lần đối đầu đội bóng cùng trang lứa xứ mặt trời mọc, U19 Việt Nam đều thất bại. Đầu tiên là thất bại 2-3 ở vòng bảng, sau là 0-1 ở trận chung kết.
Cuối cùng ở giải U19 châu Á tổ chức tại Myanmar không lâu sau đó, U19 Việt Nam lần thứ 4 trong năm gặp U19 Nhật Bản và lần này, đoàn quân của HLV Graechen nhận thất bại 1-3.
