People's Artist Hoang Dung was born in 1956 in Hanoi. He came to the arts quite by chance. According to the artist, while waiting for his university entrance exam results, he was invited by friends from his neighborhood to apply to the Hanoi College of Arts. Having some free time, Hoang Dung followed his friends' advice and unexpectedly passed the entrance exam.
Hoang Dung graduated from Hanoi College of Arts in 1978 and then worked at the Hanoi Drama Troupe. On the theatrical stage, he was likened to a "versatile," meaning he could take on many roles in different genres, from comedic to tragic, leading to supporting roles...

People's Artist Hoang Dung served as Deputy Director of the Hanoi Drama Theatre from 2002. In 2007, he assumed the position of Director and retired in 2017. He was awarded the title of People's Artist in 2007.
In addition to his position as Director of the Hanoi Drama Theatre, Hoang Dung is also a member of the Executive Committee and the Artistic Council of the Vietnam Theatre Artists Association, Vice President of the Hanoi Theatre Association, and a member of the Artistic Council of Hanoi City.
Besides his stage career, Hoang Dung is also a prominent figure in the fields of television and film. He has participated in many famous films such as: Retired General, Cunning Old Woman (Cinema) Người phán xử, Sinh tử, Trở về yêu thương, Về nhà đi con... Gần đây, vai ông trùm Phan Quân của ông trong phim "Người phán xử" để lại ấn tượng sâu đậm đối với người xem truyền hình.
