Police busted a football betting ring worth over 50 billion VND.

On December 19th, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police announced that they are investigating and prosecuting a group that organized an online football betting ring with transaction amounts exceeding 50 billion VND.

According to initial information, detectives from the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police recently learned about a group of individuals organizing a sophisticated online football betting ring with large transaction amounts, so they focused on verifying and gathering evidence.

During the investigation, the police identified the two ringleaders as Le Chi Tuan (38 years old, residing in Hoa Bac commune, Hoa Vang district, Da Nang) and Mai Phuoc Ngoc (30 years old, residing in Hoa Hiep Nam ward, Lien Chieu district, Da Nang).

The police also identified Huynh Van Truong (54 years old) and Le Van Nam (43 years old, both residing in Hoa Hiep Nam ward, Lien Chieu district) as participants in Tuan and Ngoc's network.

After consolidating the case file and evidence, on December 18th, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police mobilized 30 officers and soldiers to simultaneously arrest Le Chi Tuan and Mai Phuoc Ngoc for the act of "Organizing gambling" and Huynh Van Truong and Le Van Nam for the act of "Gambling".

Through questioning, the group confessed that from around January 2023 to the present, Tuan and Ngoc had contacted an individual named Nhan (whose identity is unknown) to use the Bong88 website to access betting accounts and organize online gambling in the form of football betting.

This group divided this account into multiple sub-accounts, distributing them to gamblers for betting, while simultaneously increasing the exchange rate of 1 USD for betting from 12.000 VND to 17.000 VND and then to 20.000 VND.

Initially, the police determined that the amount of money involved in organizing and participating in gambling by this ring exceeded 50 billion VND.

Specifically, between November 14th and the time of their arrest, this gambling ring had a very large number of gamblers, with the total amount of money in the accounts exceeding 2,1 billion VND.

Along with the arrest and detention of the suspects, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police also seized evidence including 5 mobile phones and approximately 200 pages of documents showing betting history from November 14th to December 17th with a total transaction amount of 107.470 USD.

Currently, the Criminal Police Department of Da Nang City Police is continuing to investigate and prosecute those involved in this gambling ring.
