"This is a difficult moment. First, I want to thank the club for their trust in me despite my mistakes before signing the contract. I will always be grateful for the way everyone treated me. I have many friendships to share with Barca. When I leave the team, it's not just as a player, but the emotions leave too." Marca quoted Suarez during the press conference.
The Uruguayan striker couldn't hold back his tears as he confirmed his departure to continue his football career. Suarez's next destination is Atletico Madrid. The Madrid club paid 6 million euros to buy out the remaining year of Suarez's contract.

"Wearing the Barca shirt was a dream come true. I couldn't imagine achieving what I have today. I have so many memories at Barca, from winning the Champions League for the first time and scoring in that final," Suarez continued.
After the 2019/20 season, Suarez faced a nightmare at Barca. Coach Ronald Koeman took over and then declared that Suarez had to leave. Over the past month, Barca has continuously pressured the Uruguayan striker to quickly pack his bags and leave Camp Nou.
"It was a crazy month. There were so many things people deliberately fabricated, which felt insulting to me. When I joined Barca, some people said to be careful with Messi. However, over time, Messi and I have worked well together. I have to be proud of that." Suarez emphasized.
"When I received the notification from the coach, I accepted it. I want to continue working with respect for the club until I find a new direction. There are no problems between me and Coach Koeman." The former Liverpool striker confirmed.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Suarez signed a two-year contract with Atletico, earning €7,5 million per season after tax. Suarez spoke about his new club: "I've spoken to Diego Simeone and Antoine Griezmann. Simeone's spirit is always to fight. Atletico is clearly an ambitious club. I hope to achieve something at my new club."
Regarding a future confrontation with Messi, Suarez said: "I've faced Messi before when I played for the national team. There's no problem with our relationship."
In the summer of 2014, Suarez joined Barca from Liverpool for €81,7 million. At that time, Suarez was in trouble after the scandal of biting Chiellini on the shoulder at the 2014 World Cup. Barca fans protested when the club signed Suarez. Despite this, Barca decided to complete the deal.
During his six seasons with Barca, Suarez won the Champions League in 2015. The Uruguayan striker also won four La Liga titles, four Copa del Rey titles, one UEFA Super Cup, and one FIFA Club World Cup.
