Ho Chi Minh City becomes a green zone.

After weeks as a "yellow zone," Ho Chi Minh City has just downgraded its COVID-19 status to level 1, becoming a "green zone."

On January 8th, Mr. Duong Anh Duc, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, signed a document announcing the epidemic level in Ho Chi Minh City over the past week. According to the document, as of January 6th, the epidemic in Ho Chi Minh City was at level 1. Thus, after many weeks maintaining level 2, this is the first time Ho Chi Minh City has become a green zone.

At the district level, 18 localities achieved level 1, including districts 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 11, 12, Binh Chanh, Binh Tan, Can Gio, Cu Chi, Go Vap, Hoc Mon, Nha Be, Phu Nhuan, Tan Binh, and Tan Phu.

Four localities are at level 2: District 1, District 10, Binh Thanh District, and Thu Duc City. Of these, Thu Duc City is the only locality that has upgraded its epidemic level from level 1 to level 2.

At the ward/commune level, the city currently has 235 localities at level 1; 74 localities at level 2, and 3 localities at level 3.

At the regular press briefing on the epidemic situation on January 7th, Mr. Pham Duc Hai, spokesperson for the Steering Committee for COVID-19 prevention and control, stated that the number of deaths on January 6th had dropped to its lowest level in the past 175 days, from July 16th, 2021 to January 6th, 2022.

As of 6 PM on January 6th, Ho Chi Minh City had 507.083 COVID-19 cases. The city is currently treating 5.061 patients, including 89 children under 16 years old, 319 critically ill patients on ventilators, and 18 patients undergoing ECMO intervention.
