According to the China Earthquake Networks Center (CENC), a 5,5 magnitude earthquake struck Mangya City in Qinghai Province, northwestern China, on October 19. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) reported a depth of 8,6 kilometers.

Earlier, in September, a 6,6 magnitude earthquake struck Sichuan province, China, killing more than 60 people and damaging infrastructure. In June, at least four people died and more than 10 were injured in two separate earthquakes in southwestern China.
Information regarding damage or casualties from the earthquake on October 19th is still unclear.
Some regions in China have experienced extreme weather conditions this year. A record-breaking heatwave caused many rivers to dry up in areas like Chongqing.
