Is there a fee to explore the Nho Que River?

In Vietnam, the Nho Que River flows through two provinces, Ha Giang and Cao Bang, starting in Xeo Lung village, Lung Cu commune of Ha Giang, passing through the Tu San gorge to Meo Vac district. From Meo Vac, the river branches off and flows southeast into Cao Bang province, eventually merging with the Gam River.

As it flows through the Dong Van Stone Plateau, the Nho Que River is no longer gentle but boasts countless rapids and waterfalls, creating a cascading white foam. Currently, many bus companies operate the Hanoi – Ha Giang route, departing from My Dinh, Gia Lam, and Giap Bat bus stations. Departure times vary depending on the bus company you choose, with the busiest times being early morning (5:00 AM) and late evening (9:00 PM to 9:30 PM). Ticket prices range from approximately 150.000 VND to 220.000 VND per person, depending on the type of bus. For a smoother trip, it's advisable to contact bus agencies or websites in advance to book your tickets.

For tourists who want to enjoy the thrill of descending mountain passes and conquering treacherous hairpin bends, traveling to Ha Giang by motorbike is a viable option. However, this journey requires confident driving skills, good health, and the ability to operate a motorbike continuously for 7-8 hours while remaining alert.

How much does a boat trip on the Nho Que River cost?

Traveling from Dong Van town, follow National Highway 4C to Ta Lang intersection, where you will see signs directing you to the Nho Que River boat dock. If you want to admire more of the majestic scenery of Ma Pi Leng Pass, you can choose to continue to Xin Cai dock.

Based on our experience, a boat trip across the Nho Que River, through the Tu San Gorge area, will cost approximately 100.000 – 150.000 VND per person per trip.

If traveling during peak season, visitors should contact the boat operators in advance to book a reservation and check the departure schedule to avoid missing their trip or having to wait a long time due to crowds. Typically, each boat is suitable for 4 to 8 passengers.

Kayak rental prices range from 100.000 to 150.000 VND per person for 30 minutes of paddling. To rent a kayak, you need to contact the rental company a day in advance to make arrangements. When boating on the Nho Que River, choosing appropriate clothing is also very important. You should choose loose, comfortable clothes that can be worn over a life vest. Avoid wearing skirts or high heels as they will be inconvenient while rowing.
