(VTC News) - Microsoft has just introduced an upgrade package called WUO, allowing Windows 7 users to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro, with a retail price equivalent to $14.99 when Windows 8 is officially announced.
The program began on June 2, 2012, in 131 markets, including the US and Canada. Users who purchased pre-installed Windows 7 on their computers between June 2, 2012, and January 31, 2013, including Windows 7 Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, or Windows 7 Ultimate, and who had valid OEM certificates, were eligible to purchase WUO.
Computers purchased between June 2, 2012, and January 31, 2013, with Windows 7 pre-installed and bundled with WUO, require a Windows 8 download before the end of February 2013 – after this date, the update will be unavailable. Windows 8 Pro This offer will expire. Consumers who subscribe to WUO will be able to download and install Windows 8 when it officially becomes available on the market. The update can be installed on any computer compatible with or suitable for the Windows operating system and will receive 90 days of support from Microsoft.

"Windows 8 has received a lot of attention, especially with the Windows 8 preview released this week. We also understand that many customers are looking to buy new computers," said Tami Reller, General Manager of Marketing and Finance, Windows Products, Microsoft. "The WOU package gives people the flexibility to buy a new Windows computer for immediate use, but easily upgrade to Windows 8 when the new operating system officially launches," she emphasized.
