The Japan Meteorological Agency said the earthquake's epicenter was in southern Ibaraki Prefecture, at a depth of approximately 40 kilometers. No tsunami warning was issued.

However, even in the capital city of Tokyo, the strong tremors from this earthquake were clearly felt.

The earthquake also caused all high-speed train and other train services to temporarily cease operation for about 10 minutes; while elevator systems had to be shut down for about 30 minutes to ensure the absolute safety of the public.

To date, there have been no reports of the earthquake affecting airports in the region, including Haneda International Airport and Narita Airport.

In April, two devastating earthquakes struck Kumano Prefecture, Japan, on the night of the 14th and the early morning of the 16th, killing 47 people, injuring over 1.000 others, and destroying much of the infrastructure in the area.

To date, the Japanese government is actively carrying out relief efforts following the earthquake.
