Smartphones that rival the iPhone 5C

HTC Desire 816 (8,5 million VND)

Once dubbed the "iPhone 5C of HTC" due to its sleek plastic casing and rounded corners, this mobile phone is also priced similarly to the iPhone 5C that VinaPhone recently announced. It is therefore the most worthy competitor to Apple's smartphone.

In terms of hardware, screen, and specifications, the Desire 816 has several advantages as a newer model. It features a 5,5-inch 720p HD screen, a 1,6 GHz quad-core processor (the iPhone 5C only has a 1,3 GHz dual-core processor), and 1,5 GB of RAM. The Desire 816 also boasts higher camera specifications, with a 13 MP main camera and a 5 MP front camera. However, the iPhone 5C is considered superior in terms of software and overall performance.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra (8,9 million VND)

The iPhone 5C and Xperia Z Ultra target two different user groups and only compete on price.

The Z Ultra is currently the best Android phablet to buy, with a price close to that of the recently dropped iPhone 5C.

The Lumia 925 is a model with dimensions and specifications very similar to the iPhone 5C. It uses a 1,5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, a 4,5-inch Super Sensitive Touch AMOLED display with a resolution of 1.280 x 768 pixels, 1 GB of RAM, and a 2.000 mAh battery.

The Lumia 925 is the Windows Phone that best rivals the iPhone 5C.

Although it doesn't have a camera as powerful as the Lumia 1020, 1520, or Lumia 930, the Lumia 925 still boasts some of the best low-light photography capabilities on the market, with its 8,7 MP camera, Carl Zeiss lens, and PureView sensor.

LG G2 imported

Besides the three officially distributed models mentioned above, consumers may also need to consider the imported LG G2 and the iPhone 5C.

The LG G2 stands out in terms of design, hardware, and display quality.

These two models are only truly competitive when compared in terms of price and performance. In terms of brand recognition, a grey market import like the G2 can hardly compare to an officially sold Apple product.  

LG Nexus 5

The Nexus 5 is the most distinctive competitor to the iPhone 5C compared to the products above because it is a pure Android model, with optimized hardware and software.

This smartphone model is highly rated for its specifications and performance, featuring a 2,3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor and 2 GB of RAM. It has a 4,95-inch Full HD screen and runs Android 4.4 Kitkat.

The Nexus 5 is a pure Android smartphone, currently priced at around 8 million VND (imported via unofficial channels). It also receives the Android L upgrade earliest among Android devices.

Currently, the price of the Nexus 5 at unofficial retailers is around 8 million VND. Official units are becoming scarce at authorized dealers.
