(VTC News) - For women who have just started raising young children who are about to learn to walk, increased vigilance and caution are needed to protect their children.

At that age, children are very eager to reach for everything around the house. It's not uncommon for them to reach for something, and that can lead to injuries, fires, or burns.

When babies reach the age of learning to walk, parents need to be extra vigilant.

The best way to avoid injury to your child is through the following methods, as advised by Dr. Yulia Lukita Dewanti, Burn Prevention Center, Jakarta.

- Gradually provide knowledge to help children understand dangerous objects that can cause burns and scalds, using the most persuasive methods.

- Keep heat sources such as candles, stoves, and hair dryers out of reach of children.

- Avoid engaging in heat-related activities while holding or carrying a baby, such as cooking, or handling hot or very cold food or drinks.

- Test food before giving any food or drink to your child to make sure it's not too hot.

- Do not let children play with hot bathwater. Hot water for children should not exceed 37,7 degrees Celsius.

- Supervise the use of electrical appliances in the home. Electrical appliances should be used with short cables and not be left hanging, making them easy to plug and unplug. Keep children away from electrical outlets or switches. Close all outlets used for power cords.
