Robot accidentally punctures mosquito repellent container, 24 Amazon employees hospitalized.

On December 5th, 24 employees at an Amazon warehouse in New Jersey, USA, were hospitalized after a robot accidentally punctured a container of mosquito repellent.

According to local media reports, containers holding 255 grams of a chemical compound made from chili peppers and black pepper fell from a shelf and were punctured by a robot.

"All affected employees will be discharged within 24 hours. The safety of our employees is always our top priority. Amazon will thoroughly investigate this incident," Amazon said.

Previously, in response to press inquiries, Amazon stated that the 24 employees were hospitalized only for "precautionary checks."

This incident once again raises concerns about the working environment in Amazon warehouses. Recently, the online retailer has been receiving widespread criticism in the US and UK for prioritizing productivity over worker safety in its workplace.

A workplace safety investigation in June revealed that many workers were unable to continue working after sustaining multiple injuries at Amazon.

“Amazon’s automated robots put workers at risk, threatening their lives. This shows the company is prioritizing profits over the health and safety of its workers,” said Stuart Appelbaum, president of the American Retail and Department Store Federation.

Bernie Sanders, a U.S. Senator, was the first politician to speak out about concerns regarding the working conditions and low wages of Amazon workers.

In the UK, ambulances were called to Amazon's warehouses 600 times between 2015 and 2017. Despite this, Amazon maintains that the working environment at the company remains stable.
