The CIAD code is an identifier used to identify bank branches participating in the interbank clearing system in Vietnam. This code is issued and managed by the State Bank of Vietnam, with the aim of standardizing and facilitating interbank transactions.
Structure
The Citad code has an 8-digit structure, divided into three main parts:
- The first two digits represent the province/city code where the bank branch is located.
- The next 3 digits are the bank code, identifying the bank participating in the system.
- The last three digits are the branch code, identifying the specific branch of the bank.

The role of Citad code
Bank branch identification: The Citad code helps to accurately identify the bank branch involved in the transaction. This ensures that the money is transferred to the correct receiving bank branch.
Supporting the clearing process: In a clearing system, transactions between banks are aggregated and cleared. The Citad code helps the clearing system accurately identify the participating parties and perform clearing efficiently.
Increased accuracy and security: Citad codes help minimize errors in transaction processing, ensuring that information about the receiving bank and branch is accurate. This also contributes to increased security for financial transactions.
Support for management and supervision: The State Bank of Vietnam can use the Citad code to manage and supervise the operations of bank branches participating in the interbank payment system, ensuring compliance with legal regulations and standards.
Application
Citad codes are used in many types of interbank transactions, including:
- Interbank money transfer: When a customer transfers money from their account at one bank to a recipient's account at another bank, the Citad code helps to accurately identify the receiving bank branch.
- Electronic payment transactions: The Citad code is also used in electronic payment transactions between banks, ensuring the accuracy and security of the transaction.
- International transactions: For international money transfers, the Citad code can be combined with other international identifiers such as the SWIFT code to identify the bank branch in Vietnam.
