Shaolin Temple has a new abbot.

Zen master Thich An Lac has been appointed as the new abbot of the world-renowned Shaolin Temple in Henan Province, China.

Venerable Thich An Lac will lead the Shaolin Temple, replacing former abbot Thich Vinh Tin, who is under investigation for alleged embezzlement and misconduct.

Zen Master Thich An Lac, 59 years old, is currently the abbot of Bach Ma Temple, also in Ha Nam, and is the Vice Chairman of the Buddhist Association of Ha Nam Province, China.

"According to the regulations on the appointment of abbots of Buddhist temples in China, after democratic evaluation and approval by the Shaolin Temple, along with related procedures, Venerable Thich An Lac was invited to become the abbot of Shaolin Temple." The temple announced it.

As a globally recognized Buddhist sanctuary and the birthplace of Chinese martial arts, Shaolin Temple attracts thousands of disciples annually, including many from overseas.
