Mâm cỗ cúng rằm tháng Giêng hầu như không thể thiếu thịt gà, xôi gấc/bánh chưng. Gà là vật cúng tế linh thiêng nhất, còn xôi gấc có màu đỏ sẽ mang đến may mắn cho gia đình trong năm mới.

Các món ăn khác như giò, chả, rau xào... cũng được dùng cúng gia tiên vào ngày này. Ngoài ra còn có hương, hoa tưởi, vàng mã, đèn nến, trầu cau, rượu.
