Penile fracture due to incorrect sexual position.

(VTC News) -

Admitted to the hospital with pain and bruising in the genital area after sexual intercourse, a 35-year-old man in Hanoi was diagnosed with a ruptured corpus cavernosum and required emergency surgery.

A 35-year-old man living in Hanoi went to the National Hospital for Tropical Diseases with pain, swelling, bruising in his genitals, and an inability to achieve an erection.

At the Department of General Surgery - Urology - Andrology, ultrasound revealed multiple tears, diffuse edema, and hematomas along the corpus cavernosum of the penis. The patient was diagnosed with corpus cavernosum rupture due to improper sexual position and underwent emergency surgery immediately after consultation.

Dr. Tran Duy Hien, from the Department of General Surgery - Urology - Andrology, said that during the surgery, the hematoma spread, making it difficult to pinpoint the location of the injury. "If the patient comes to the hospital earlier, the surgery will be smoother, the incision will be smaller, and recovery will be faster." The doctor said.

The patient had a rupture of the right corpus cavernosum, mid-penis, approximately 1 cm in diameter. After suturing and drainage of the corpus cavernosum, the patient was advised to avoid erections and refrain from sexual intercourse for at least three months.

A ruptured corpus cavernosum occurs when the tunica albuginea surrounding the corpus cavernosum of the penis tears during an erection, often due to inexperienced first-time intercourse, rough sex, or self-inflicted bending. This condition causes hematoma, deformity, and complications such as painful erections, difficulty urinating, erectile dysfunction, and seriously affects the quality of sexual life.

Many patients delay seeking medical attention due to embarrassment, leading to more severe damage. Those who come late often face penile deformities such as angulation or curvature due to scar tissue, affecting both aesthetics and sexual function. Without timely treatment, patients risk chronic erectile dysfunction or permanent impotence.

Doctor Hien advises that a ruptured corpus cavernosum is a serious injury but can be prevented by practicing safe sex positions.

When experiencing penile injuries, patients should seek prompt treatment at a specialized medical facility to minimize complications and protect their sexual function. If you have any questions about sexual health, you should consult a specialist for comprehensive advice.
