Iran sets a 'red line' regarding the Strait of Hormuz in any peace agreement.

(VTC News) -

A senior adviser to Mojtaba Khamenei warned that any agreement aimed at ending the conflict must ensure Iran maintains its advantage in the Strait of Hormuz and the region.

According to the Iran International, Mr. Mohsen Rezaei, military advisor to Mojtaba Khamenei and former Commander-in-Chief Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), warning that the Strait of Hormuz and the Islamic Republic of Iran's "influence" in the region must not be weakened in any agreement.

Speaking on state television, Rezaei stated that the conflict must end in a way that ensures Iran's deterrence capabilities for the next 50 years. This statement reveals that a segment of Iran's senior military leadership remains opposed to any agreement that could diminish Tehran's influence and control over the Strait of Hormuz.

He also stated that the US was the "loser" in the conflict, and warned that any mistakes by the opponent would be met with an even stronger response from Iran.

"In the armed forces, we respond to the enemy's mistakes with far stronger measures than what the enemy inflicts.", he said.

Previously, Swiss Ministry of Foreign Affairs Switzerland has officially confirmed that the talks between Iran and the US, scheduled for June 19 at the Burgenstock mountain resort, have been postponed. However, Switzerland "remains ready to facilitate the talks."

The announcement did not specify a date for future talks, but stated that "relevant preparations at Burgenstock are continuing."

Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said consultations were still underway through intermediaries. He also revealed that the start date for negotiations would be announced "if the necessary conditions are met."

According to Baghaei, the memorandum stipulates that the start of negotiations depends on the implementation and maintenance of Articles 1, 4, 5, 10, and 11. These articles are believed to relate to the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah.

Mr. Baghaei also dismissed some media reports about the possibility of closing the Strait of Hormuz, saying that these reports were "unfounded".
